Basilicata
Giorgia Meloni visits one of the poorest towns in Basilicata and asks the mayor what the three priorities are to revitalize the area.
“The first is the hospital: it’s there, but there are no doctors.”
She pulls out her cell phone, talks for a couple of minutes, and then announces:
“Done. The doctors will arrive within a week.”
“The second is water: it’s there, but a mine upstream has polluted the aquifers.”
She picks up the cell phone again, a couple more words, and says:
“Done. Within a month, the aquifers will be cleaned up, and the owner will compensate the residents.”
“And the third?” she asks.
“The third is cell phones,” the mayor replies.
“Nothing works here.”
